4 Things to Spend Your Money on Instead of
Sarah Palin's Online 'News' Channel

God bless Sarah Palin. She keeps finding ways to stay relevant after her failed VP run in 2008. She launched her own online channel yesterday. Fans can spend $9.95 a month to watch her give colorful commentary on topics which she knows nothing of. Here are cheaper ways to spend your money on digital content.

Netflix offers monthly plans that begin at $7.99 a month. You can stream thousands of movies and television shows, including critically acclaimed original content like 'Orange is the New Black' and 'House of Cards.'

Yes, Hulu Plus has advertisements, but unlike Netflix, it has new episodes of television shows uploaded to its website the day after it airs. My roommate has the Hulu Plus app on the television, and it's awesome. I love watching 'The Daily Show' in the morning before heading into work. A membership is $7.99 a month.

I really recommend subscribing to the Economist. I used to have the magazine subscription, but now I only use the digital version since I like listening to the articles on my tablet. The digital subscription costs $2.19 a week, or $8.76 a month.

Amazon Prime is popular because of its free two-day shipping that it offers to members. But did you know that a membership to Amazon Prime includes access to thousands of television episodes and movies? You can also listen to music under Prime Music, which gives members access to over a million ad-free songs available for streaming.  A membership  to Amazon Prime costs $8.25 a month.

Official Teaser Trailer for 'Mockingjay: Part 1'

Last month I blogged about the teaser video that Lionsgate made for the next 'Hunger Games' movie. Here is another trailer for the anticipated sequel.

First Picture of Wonder Woman Revealed at Comic Con

Warner Bros. has finally released the first photo of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the upcoming movie 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.' I think the actress looks awesome in the costume. But all I could think of when I first saw the picture is the strong resemblance to Xena Warrior Princess. What do you think?

'Game of Thrones' Season 4 Bloopers

This video came out today at Comic Con. If you're suffering from GOT withdrawal like I am, then I think you will enjoy these bloopers.

Remembering Philip Seymour Hoffman

Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman would have turned 47 years old today. One of my favorite roles of his was in the 2007 movie 'Charlie Wilson's War.' The clip below is an amazing scene in the movie that probably got him his Oscar nomination for his work.

Conflict in the Middle East: 'Bruno'

The fighting that is currently going on in the Gaza Strip is really unfortunate. However, the past few days as I've watched the news about this situation in the Middle East escalate, all I could think about is that scene in the 2009 movie 'Bruno' where Sacha Baron Cohen's character discusses how to bring peace between Israel and Palestine. Check out the clip below:

Trailer for 'The Imitation Game'

"Did you know that it was an openly gay Englishman who's responsible for winning World War II? His name's Alan Turing and he cracked the German's enigma code. After the war was over, he committed suicide because he was so haunted for being gay. Why don't they teach any of that in schools? A gay man is responsible for winning World War II. If they did maybe he wouldn't have killed himself and you wouldn't be so terrified of who you are."
-The Normal Heart

I really loved HBO's television movie "The Normal Heart." I highly recommend watching it before the Emmy Awards ceremony airs next month. That quote above is one of the best lines that Mark Ruffalo's character, Ned Weeks, delivers. Alan Turing is the subject of the upcoming movie 'The Imitation Game.' The trailer is now out, and the film looks amazing. It hits theaters on November 21.

Elaine Stritch dies at 89

It made me sad to hear about the death of actress Elaine Stritch this morning. I'll always remember her as Colleen Donaghy on '30 Rock.' Here are some of her funniest moments on the show:

Season 1, Episode 21

Season 2, Episode 9

Season 3, Episode 20

Space Travel in Movies

Tonight is the second episode of the freshman series 'Extant.' Halle Berry plays an astronaut who returns home to her family after a 13-month mission in space. There are some great movies that are about space travel. Here are some of my favorite ones:

'Gravity' (2013)
Seeing 'Gravity' in 3D was one of the coolest movie theater experiences I have ever had. The movie is currently streaming on HBO GO.

                                                                                    'Prometheus' (2012)

'Prometheus' definitely deserved its Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. This was also a neat movie to see on the big screen. We'll see who returns for 'Prometheus 2.'

'Sunshine' (2007)
'Sunshine' is one of my favorite science fiction movies. Danny Boyle re-teamed with his '28 Days Later' lead Cillian Murphy to make this space travel movie.

'Planet of the Apes' on Television

'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' won this past weekend's box office. It's crazy that the original 'Planet of the Apes,' which came out in 1968, is still spawning movies. Did you know that back in the 1970s there were two television series that were inspired by the movie? The live-action television show, 'Planet of the Apes,' lasted only one season in 1974.

'Return to the Planet of the Apes,' which was an animated program, was also on the air for just one season in 1975. It is currently streaming on Hulu: http://www.hulu.com/return-to-the-planet-of-the-apes

Hilarious Review of 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'

'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' won the top spot for the weekend box office. Check out this hysterical video review from the Onion.

World Cup Final

Germany and Argentina play each other for the last match of the 2014 World Cup today. Who else thinks that Ben Affleck in 'Argo' is German head coach Joachim Low's doppelganger?

Emmy Snubs

The Emmy nominations came out yesterday and a lot of my favorite shows got solid recognition. However, there aren't enough spots for everyone. Let's take a look at some of the snubs.

Who: Michelle Monaghan
Show: 'True Detective'

My friends are really sick of me talking about how amazing the first season of 'True Detective' is. In my defense, the season finale of the program was so popular that HBO GO crashed when too many users were logging into the streaming service. The acting on the show is great. I would have loved to have seen Michelle Monaghan get nominated alongside costars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Who: Taryn Manning
Show: 'Orange is the New Black'

Although season one of 'OITNB' premiered over a year ago, yesterday's nominations that the show garnered were all for season one and not season two. Now it makes sense why I thought the show was snubbed by the Emmys in 2013. It turns out its summer premiere date didn't qualify it for last year's nominations. Anyway, 'Orange is the New Black' has fantastic subplots. It's not that surprising that five actresses got nominated for their work. However, I wish Taryn Manning was one of them. She is great as the troublemaker Pennsatucky.

Who: Thomas Middleditch
Show: 'Silicon Valley'

I knew it was unlikely that Thomas Middleditch would score a nomination for playing nerdy Richard on 'Silicon Valley,' but I think he deserves to be on the best actor list for the comedy category. Maybe he will get some love by the Hollywood Foreign Press when the Golden Globes are announced later this year.

'Extant' Premieres Tonight

Don't forget to tune into Halle Berry's new television show today. The season premiere is tonight at 9 PM on CBS.

Joachim Low = Ben Affleck from 'Argo'

This Germany vs. Brazil game is quite awful. It reminds me of when I was on the junior varsity team and we had to scrimmage against the giant varsity girls. It was never pretty. This match is exactly that. Anyway, I can't help but notice the resemblance between Germany's head coach and Ben Affleck's character from 'Argo.'

'24': Where Are They Now?

Tonight is a new episode of '24: Live Another Day.' Let's take a look back at former cast members of the show and see what they're up to these days.

Leslie Hope (Teri Bauer)

Sometimes I forget that Jack Bauer had a wife. Leslie Hope was only on the first season of '24.'

The actress can next be seen on FX's new show 'The Strain.' It premieres on July 13.

Xander Berkeley (George Mason)

Working at CTU doesn't look like fun. Imagine being the director of the place. Now that's a stressful job to have. Xander Berkeley played that role in season one and for part of season two.

The actor is currently starring on the drama series 'Salem.' The season finale airs on July 13 on WGN.

Reiko Aylesworth (Michelle Dessler)
Michelle Dessler was a bad-ass CTU agent, but unfortunately she was killed off in season five.

Aylesworth has kept busy since her character was written off '24.' She recently guest-starred on the NBC drama 'Revolution.' The first season of the show is currently streaming on Netflix. Some episodes of season two can be seen on Hulu.

Wouldn't Liz Lemon Buy This?

I think that one of the perks of flying is the SkyMall magazine that is in the pocket in the seat in front of you on the plane. There is so much junk being sold on those pages, and I want all of it. I want a big house just so I can fill it with the stupid things from that magazine. I stumbled upon this item and immediately thought of Liz Lemon of '30 Rock.' She would be all over this mosquito jacket.

This photo is from episode 11 of season 5 of '30 Rock.'

Patriotic Movies

I love the 4th of July. It's a great excuse to eat hot dogs and watch 'Independence Day.' This holiday got me thinking about some of my favorite patriotic movies. Check out these flicks this weekend to get your red, white and blue on.

This is a great comedy set in the White House. A lot of politicians and journalists appear as themselves in this fun 1993 movie. A fun fact about 'Dave' is that it was written by Gary Ross, who directed the megahit movie 'The Hunger Games.' You can rent the movie here.

Clint Eastwood shot this movie back-to-back with the companion drama 'Letters from Iwo Jima.' Both films were released in 2006, and I highly recommend watching them. The deceased Paul Walker has a small role in 'Flags of our Fathers.'

'Forrest Gump' turns 20 years old tomorrow. That fact makes me feel old. However, this Tom Hanks movie is one of my all time favorite flicks. I love watching Gump's journey into adulthood amidst the backdrop of historical events in American culture in the second half of the 20th Century. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix.

Soccer Movies: Part II

Are you excited for the World Cup matches to resume tomorrow? Germany and France will be the first game, and then Columbia will play Brazil in the second match. Until then, here are some more soccer movies for you to check out until the quarter-finals air on Friday.

I'm not going to lie, I have only seen the 2005 movie 'Fever Pitch.' In my defense, I am a Red Sox fan, and watching that movie is like reliving the 2004 post-season glory all over again. However, I do love Colin Firth. It might be time for me to finally catch the original movie that came out in 1997. If you haven't seen it either, it is currently streaming on Netflix.

Back in the day I used to watch anything that came on the Disney Channel, including 'Air Bud: World Pup'. I definitely remember this soccer movie, and it's a solid one. If you need something good to watch with your kids, this title is streaming on Netflix.

Before Tom Hooper shot to stardom with 'The King's Speech,' he directed this soccer movie. Starring Michael Sheen, this sports flick can be purchased on Amazon. Click on the image below to buy the movie.

Soccer Movies

World Cup fever has taken over my life this summer. It got me thinking about soccer in the movies. Here is a list of some films for you to check out until the quarter finals begin on Friday.

If you're a 90s child like me, then you probably remember this sports movie from 1995. If you want to relive your childhood, you can stream the movie on Netflix.

It feels like yesterday that I fell in love with Jonathan Rhys Meyers in this fun 2002 flick. You can watch the movie on Amazon.

I actually have never seen this 2005 movie, but I really want to because Gerard Butler acted in it before he blew up with '300' in 2006. Has anyone seen it? Comment below if you think I should check it out.
