Space Travel in Movies

Tonight is the second episode of the freshman series 'Extant.' Halle Berry plays an astronaut who returns home to her family after a 13-month mission in space. There are some great movies that are about space travel. Here are some of my favorite ones:

'Gravity' (2013)
Seeing 'Gravity' in 3D was one of the coolest movie theater experiences I have ever had. The movie is currently streaming on HBO GO.

                                                                                    'Prometheus' (2012)

'Prometheus' definitely deserved its Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. This was also a neat movie to see on the big screen. We'll see who returns for 'Prometheus 2.'

'Sunshine' (2007)
'Sunshine' is one of my favorite science fiction movies. Danny Boyle re-teamed with his '28 Days Later' lead Cillian Murphy to make this space travel movie.

  1. What's up with space women and the pixie cut? It seems to work. I need to see Sunshine. I will add it to my list.

  2. Well the pixie cut helps with not dealing with the whole how does hair look in zero gravity? Remember the elevator scenes in 'Inception'? They put Ellen Page's hair in a bun because that way they didn't have to deal with how it would look if she had her hair down. That was pretty much the same case with Sandra Bullock's short hairdo in 'Gravity.' If she wore her hair how it normally is, long and straight, it would have been a challenge to create how that would look in space. It probably would have added a million dollars to the visual effects budget of the movie!
