ABC Releases First Promo for 2015 Academy Awards

Awards season is my favorite time of year. So, naturally the Oscars are like the Super Bowl for me. I was pretty excited to see the first promo starring host Neil Patrick Harris. Check it out below:

Happy Holidays!

Last year Buzzfeed posted this hilarious post about holiday cards. Number nine features a photoshopped picture of actor Alexander Skarsgard holding a cat. I asked my friend if I could borrow her pet to recreate that picture. The below is the result. Merry Christmas!

'The Interview' Will Now Play in Select Theaters

Despite receiving threats from hackers, it was announced today that SONY will release the comedy 'The Interview' in some theaters on Christmas day. Many large theater chains refused to show the movie after hackers threatened to commit terrorist attacks if the studio released the film. Yesterday I wrote about how there are plenty of solid backup entertainment options for those who were planning on catching 'The Interview' in the theaters. But now you can ignore that last post and go out and catch a showing of the movie near you. Enjoy the trailer below!

What to Watch on Christmas
now that 'The Interview' Won't Play in Theaters

It looks like the North Korean hackers got what they wanted this year for Christmas because 'The Interview' will not be playing in theaters on December 25th as was originally planned. So, if you're dying to watch something that day, what are your choices? Check out some of my suggestions below.

'The Imitation Game'

'The Imitation Game' had a limited release in theaters last month. But on Christmas day, it will have a nationwide release. I was lucky enough to catch a screening of the film in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. It was a really great movie and I definitely recommend that you check it out!

'Annie' (1982)

The 2014 movie 'Annie' hits theaters on Christmas day. However, the remake currently has a 4.5/10 rating on IMDB. But the good news is that the original movie is currently streaming on Netflix!

'Transparent'

If you have Amazon Prime, you can stream the entire first season of the show 'Transparent' online. Webseries from Netflix like 'House of Cards' and 'Orange is the New Black' have both been critical hits. Amazon quickly followed Netflix's idea to create original programming. This month Amazon picked up its very first Golden Globe nominations (Best Actor for Jeffrey Tambor and Best TV Series) for the first season of 'Transparent.'

Tonight is the Final Episode of 'The Colbert Report'

It's hard to believe that Stephen Colbert's hilarious show will air its last episode tonight. The Northwestern University alum will host 'The Late Show' on CBS in 2015. Before Colbert got his own program on Comedy Central, he worked on 'The Daily Show.' The below clip is one of my favorite moments of his time working as a correspondent for Jon Stewart:

'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'

The final installment of 'The Hobbit' movies hits theaters tomorrow. To help promote the film, actor Martin Freeman hosted 'Saturday Night Live' this past weekend. One of the sketches that aired parodied his new movie and the BBC's 'The Office,' which he starred in for two seasons. Check out the hilarious video below:

Who Got Snubbed by the Golden Globes?

The Golden Globe nominations came out today. Some of my favorite performances of the past year got recognized. I am happy that Michelle Monaghan became a first time nominee for her acting on 'True Detective.' I was also excited that Ruth Wilson got nominated for her work on the Showtime drama 'The Affair.' However, every year there are always noticeable snubs during awards season. It was surprising that Peter Dinklage's name was not announced this morning.

His acting on season four of 'Game of Thrones' was fantastic. Check out the clip below of a memorable scene from his trial.

SAG Nominee Steve Carell

It was not much of a surprise when it was announced this morning that Steve Carell got a Screen Actors Guild nomination for his work in the movie 'Foxcatcher.' Before Carell became a big star on the sitcom 'The Office,' he was a correspondent on 'The Daily Show.' Check out one of my favorite segments that he did while he was on the Comedy Central program.

Who was Originally Going to Star in 'The Imitation Game?'

Benedict Cumberbatch has been busy promoting his latest feature, 'The Imitation Game.' The British Independent Film Awards, which were today, nominated him for Best Actor. I am sure that he will continue to get more nominations for his role during the next couple months.

I went to a screening of 'The Imitation Game' yesterday in West Hollywood. It was a really great movie and I recommend you go out and see it! After the showing, Benedict spoke briefly about how the role was initially offered to another actor before he got it. However, he would not reveal who that person was! According to IMDB, Leonardo DiCaprio was originally slated to star as Alan Turing. I think Leo would have been fantastic, but I'm happy that Benedict won the part.
