Descendants of Alan Turing Deliver Gay
Pardon Petition to Downing Street

Graham Moore received a well-deserved Oscar statuette this past Sunday for writing 'The Imitation Game.' The movie shed light on Alan Turing, who had no choice but to undergo hormonal treatment after he was arrested for gross indecency with a man in 1952. Members of his family want to get the 49,000 men who were also convicted under the U.K's anti-sodomy laws a pardon. You can read more about their work here and here. Best Moment from the Academy Awards

There were some really fabulous moments from last night's Academy Awards. It was so exciting watching Emmanuel Lubezki win for the second year in a row in the cinematography category. In 2014 he won the award for the movie 'Gravity,' and last night he nabbed it for 'Birdman.' It was also great seeing a Latino win the Oscar for best director for the second year in a row. Last year Alfonso Cuaron won, and yesterday Alejandro Inarritu got the coveted award for directing 'Birdman.' I think one of my favorite moments of the show was the musical performance of the song Everything is Awesome from 'The Lego Movie.' I've been a fan of Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone since their days making digital shorts on 'Saturday Night Live.' Check out the video below:

Who Was Snubbed?

The Academy Awards will finally air tonight. The event is basically my Superbowl. I have ballots printed out for my guests and I am making chicken drumsticks in honor of the movie 'Whiplash.' Unfortunately, not everyone can be nominated for an Oscar. Here are some notable snubs.

Who: Oscar Faura
Movie: 'Imitation Game'
Category: Cinematography

I am going to be honest, I have not seen most of the movies that are nominated for best cinematography. I never got around to seeing 'Ida,' 'Mr. Turner,' or 'Unbroken.' That being said, I was rooting for 'The Imitation Game' to get a nomination in this category. I thought the film was shot beautifully. Its director of cinematography, Oscar Faura, made the wise choice to shoot the movie on 35mm. Although he wasn't recognized for his work on the drama, his next project looks pretty amazing.

Who: Andrea Riseborough
Movie: 'Birdman'
Category: Best Supporting Actress

Although Patricia Arquette will most certainly win the Oscar for her work in the movie 'Boyhood,' I want to point out that there were lots of great female performances in 2014. I was really impressed with Andrea Riseborough's acting in the movie 'Birdman.' I didn't even recognize her as the red head lead in the movie 'Oblivion.' Although the Academy did not recognize her this year, I think she is going to have a long and impressive career as an actress.

Who: Shia LaBeouf
Movie: 'Fury'
Category: Best Supporting Actor

Shia LaBeouf has really come a long way since working on the Disney television show 'Even Stevens.' His dramatic turn in this World War II movie was really impressive. He was a total long shot for getting nominated, but I think he might have a chance in the future if he keeps up the good work. You can now rent 'Fury' at your local Redbox.

Looking for Something to Serve at Your Oscars Party?

Remember the fabulous-looking dessert in the movie 'The Grand Budapest Hotel?' It is called 'courtesan-au-chocolat.' Well, if you are looking to make it on Sunday, Fox Searchlight has a video posted on YouTube that gives pretty detailed step-by-step instructions on how to make the colorful pastry. The video is below:

They Never Hosted?

I think Neil Patrick Harris is going to do a great job hosting the Academy Awards on Sunday. You might be surprised to find out about some talented comedians who have never hosted the show. Check out the list below of funny personalities who should be considered for next year's telecast.

Conan'Obrien
Conan O'Brien has hosted three late night television programs in his impressive career in the entertainment industry. He became the host of 'Late Night' when David Letterman left the show for CBS in 1993. He then had a brief stint on NBC's 'The Tonight Show.' He has been on TBS since 2010 as the star of 'Conan.' He would make a fabulous host for 2016.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey is always so great on stage when she is presenting at awards shows. She is so naturally funny and at ease in front of a live audience. Check out this video clip of when she presented at the 2010 Academy Awards with Robert Downey Jr.

Martin Short
Did you watch the 'Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary' special that aired on NBC this past Sunday? Former cast member Martin Short had a hilarious monologue during the program. When I was watching it, it immediately made me think that he would be a great host for the Oscars. Maybe next year!

Best Reaction to the Oscar Nominations

When the Academy Award nominations were announced on January 15, a lot of people, including myself, were really surprised that 'The Lego Movie' was snubbed in the animation category. It received positive reviews by critics when it was released last February. It was also a huge box office hit, earning $257,760,692 at the domestic box office. Philip Lord, one of the directors of 'The Lego Movie,' posted the below picture on his Twitter page last month. At least he has a good sense of humor about the snub!

What Should Brian Williams do Next?

Longtime news anchor Brian Williams has been the center of controversy recently over allegations that he falsely reported about a helicopter incident that allegedly took place in 2003. The network suspended the journalist for six months without pay this past Tuesday. So, what will the former host of 'Nightly News' do with his free time? Personally, I loved his cameos on '30 Rock.' Maybe he should try and book some acting gigs. He played an exaggerated version of himself on the sitcom. You can watch all nine of his appearances on the show on Netflix. Check out the clip below that I found on YouTube.

Who Will be the New Spider-Man?

The entertainment world has been buzzing lately with the recent news that Sony will be rebooting their 'Spider-Man' franchise yet again. According to The Wrap, actor Andrew Garfield will not be returning as Peter Parker. Who should replace him? Here are some of my picks for the coveted lead role.

Logan Lerman
If you've seen the movies 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' or 'Fury,' you probably know that Logan Lerman sure is a good actor. I think it would be a smart choice if he were cast in the new movie.

Nick Krause
I think actor Nick Krause was really great in the 2011 film 'The Descendants.' Although he will be turning 23 soon, I think he looks young enough to play high school student Peter Parker.

Ellar Coltrane shot to fame after starring in the critically acclaimed movie 'Boyhood.' The Texan-born actor could be a good fit to play Spider-Man.

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

It wasn't surprising that last night's episode of 'Saturday Night Live' made fun of the Superbowl in some of its sketches. Check out the hilarious parody commercial that they did:
