'Game of Thrones' Themed Food

If you are hosting people at your place for the new episode of 'Game of Thrones' this Sunday, I highly suggest checking out the website Inn at the Crossroads for great 'Game of Thrones' themed recipes. I made bread and salt for a viewing party last season, and it was a huge hit. If you are interested in making two loaves, here is the link to the recipe. I have step-by-step directions below on how to make just one:

Ingredients
2 ½ cups of all purpose flour
¼ cup of white sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 package of active dry yeast (7 grams)
½ cup plus two tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons of milk (room temperature)
2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
3 eggs (one to crack open to make dough, one to bake whole into the bread, one to use for the glaze)

Directions
1) combine flour (not all, just 1½ cups of it), sugar, salt and yeast in a medium sized bowl

make sure you don't accidentally use self-rising flour

2) melt the butter (can be done in the microwave) and then mix it with the milk in a small bowl

I used 2%, but 1% should be fine

3) let the butter and milk mixture sit for five minutes
4) slowly add the milk and butter to the flour mixture while stirring
5) add one egg and stir
6) slowly add remaining flour (1 cup) and stir
7) put some flour on your table and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic (about 4 minutes)
8) lightly grease a large bowl with butter

you can also use vegetable oil to grease the bowl

9) place dough in the bowl, and then cover it using saran or cling wrap.
10) put the bowl in a warm place (on a window sill or in the oven under the light) until it doubles in size (about an hour)

I had to get creative with my heat source

11) punch down the dough and bring it to a lightly floured surface
12) divide the dough into three equal size rounds ( I recommend using a scale to measure out the pieces)
13) cover the pieces (using clear wrap or just a cloth) and let rest for 10 minutes

this method works fine too

14) use a rolling pin to roll each of the pieces into long rolls that are about 1 ½ inches thick
15) create a loose braid
16) form the braid into a round, tucking the end of the braids underneath the dough

it's very similar to making Challah

17) lightly grease the whole egg (vegetable oil or butter)
18) put the egg into the loaf (about halfway in)
19) line a baking tray with parchment paper
20) put dough on baking sheet and cover it with saran/cling wrap and let it rise until it doubles (about 45 minutes)
21) preheat oven to 350 degrees
22) beat one egg

if you don't have a whisk, a fork works fine

23) brush the dough with the beaten egg

if you don't have a pastry brush, simply use a spoon

24) place in oven and let cook until dark golden (about 45 minutes-50 minutes)

25) after the loaf has cooled, take out the egg and fill the hole with salt (regular or kosher)

'Game of Thrones' Costumes

Although tomorrow is the series finale of the AMC show 'Mad Men,' Sunday night is also a new episode of 'Game of Thrones.' Last year I visited the EMP Museum in Seattle. One of the exhibits featured two pieces of wardrobe from 'Game of Thrones.' The dress was worn by Lena Headey, and the other outfit was used by Peter Dinklage. Check out the pictures below.

The Guest Stars of 'Mad Men'

The pilot episode of 'Mad Men' aired almost eight years ago. Throughout the seasons there have been some memorable guest actors and actresses. Take a look down memory lane and see which people had small parts on the drama series. A new episode airs tonight at 10 PM on AMC.

Season One: Kristen Schaal
Even I forgot that funny lady Kristen Schaal appeared in the pilot episode of 'Mad Men.' If you have Hulu Plus, you can watch her in all thirteen episodes of the Fox comedy 'The Last Man on Earth.'

Season Two: Colin Hanks
Colin Hanks appeared in three episodes as Father John Gill. You can hear him do commentary in the special features section of the DVD for season two of the show.

Season Three: Embeth Davidtz
The talented Embeth Davidtz first appeared as the wife of Lane Pryce in season three of the program. The 'Schindler's List' actress will star in the upcoming mini-series 'The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe.'

Season Four: Zosia Mamet
Before starring on the HBO show 'Girls,' Zosia Mamet played Joyce Ramsey on 'Mad Men' for five episodes.

Season Five: Alexis Bledel
'Gilmore Girls' alum Alexis Bledel played housewife Beth Dawes for three episodes in season five. She is now married to her 'Mad Men' scene partner Vincent Kartheiser.

Season Six: Linda Cardellini
'ER' actress Linda Cardillini played Don Draper's main mistress during season six. You can currently see her in the hit movie 'Avengers: Age of Ultron.'

Season Seven: Devon Gummersall
If you watched the short-lived show 'My So-Called Life,' then you might have recognized actor Devon Gummersall in the eighth episode of the current season.

Who Had a Chance at Being Iron Man?

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' hits theaters today. It's hard to imagine anyone but Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Actor Timothy Olyphant spoke about how he auditioned for the superhero role on 'Conan' a few weeks ago. Check out the clip below:
