'Project Runway' Recap: Episode 10

We're nearing the end of season 14 of my favorite reality program. I think it's fair to say that this season hasn't had the best group of designers. The show didn't even bother replacing Jake when he dropped out. In past seasons we have seen contestants return to the series, even after elimination. Remember Anthony from season 7? Tim Gunn hasn't even bothered using his 'save' yet this season. Now, that doesn't mean I haven't enjoyed watching these past ten episodes. They have been filled with drama, funny commentary and smart guest judges. But overall, a lot of the designs have been underwhelming. The challenge in yesterday's episode was pretty basic. Each designer needed to give a makeover to one crew member. They had two days to make the outfit, and they were able to use materials from Mood. Pretty normal challenge, right? Maybe it's the sleep deprivation or stress, but a lot of ugly outfits came down that runway. Let's take a look at some memorable moments from Thursday's episode.

Tim Gunn lost his shit on Swapnil

I've been watching 'Project Runway' since the very beginning, and I don't think I have ever seen Tim Gunn really curse and yell at someone until last night. Tim Gunn really does care about the designers. He gives thoughtful advice and offers a shoulder for people to cry on. However, he does occasionally get fed up with contestants. Remember his difficult relationship with Kenley in season five? But even Tim Gunn didn't swear at her. It never really got to that point. They just did not get along. But Tim Gunn simply had it with Swapnil last night, and it was pretty awkward to watch. Tim usually gives a nice hug or pat on the back to those who get eliminated. He did not even do that to Swapnil in yesterday's episode, and it was so weird to watch! He told Swapnil that he needed to go to the workroom to clean up his space, and Swapnil walked right by his mentor and went straight to the door.

Shiri Appleby kicked ass
I know I have said this several times already, but the guest judges have been great this season. The outfit Merline made was decent. The top was fine, but that skirt was just not flattering on her client. Guest judge, Shiri Appleby, was really the only one who called Merline out on that skirt. Nina Garcia said that she absolutely loved the crew member's transformation. It was shocking to hear that because the skirt really looked cheap. I was glad the actress noticed the poor bottom half of Merline's design.

Candice is a bombshell
Candice is very beautiful and is always so well put together. Seriously, how does she get her hair so slick and shiny? What is her secret? Is that bob real? Last night the contestant looked incredible in that low-cut black dress. The design she created for the crew member was bad, but she herself looked like a hot mama.

To sum things up, most of the designers bombed last night. Candice made her client look like a hooker, Swapnil caused his client to cry, and Ashley thought buying this print at Mood was a good idea. The judges made the right decision to eliminate Swapnil because his final look was boring. But I will miss him. His testimonials were always amusing. Even last night he delivered this gem: "I am praying to all my 10,000 gods that she's finally happy."

'Project Runway' airs on Lifetime at 9/8c every Thursday.
